The Town is currently overseeing a project to provide the community with a safe dedicated bike and pedestrian facility from downtown to the Milestone Rotary.

Plans for the “In-Town Bike Path” were originally submitted as a whole to the Project Review Committee (PRC), which is part of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). It was rejected by the PRC due to cost and available funds, so the Town then split it into the current three phases (SEE: 2/14/13 NP& EDC Project Update):
Phase 1 was approved by PRC and is now in the second stage of the project development process – the preliminary design. For more information, please see the “Steps for the ITBP – Phase 1”.

Phases 2 and 3 will be resubmitted at some point in the future, but since the next three years of TIP funding will be taken up by Phase 1, the Town will not be able to program funding for those until at least 2016.
• PHASE 1 stretches from Spruce Street, through the wetlands to the beginning of the Washington Street Extension. Download the current "Plan & Profile of Orange Street & In-Town Multi-Use Path."
• PHASE 2 stretches from the Rotary along Orange Street, and
• PHASE 3 stretches from the Washington Street Extension to the intersection of Washington Street and Commercial Street.
